Implant dentistry is a revolutionary field of dentistry. For those who have lost one or more adult teeth, dental implants can even be life-changing. Dental implants are set apart from other forms of restorative dentistry for their ability to replace the missing tooth root as well as the missing tooth. This is due to the fact that dental implants involve a surgical placement of a titanium post (the implant) into the jawbone. Once the implant site heals and the post fuses to the surrounding bone, an implant restoration (crown, bridge or denture) can be placed on top.

The Importance of an Abutment

The implant and the implant restoration are two components of a dental implant that get all the hype. The truth is, however, there’s a middle man that needs to be recognized. The third component of a dental implant is just as critical. It is called the abutment, which is a small connecting piece that joins the implant to the implant restoration. Without the abutment, your crown or denture could not be firmly anchored into your jaw and the tooth replacement process would not work.

When Abutments Come into Play

The abutment portion of your dental implant process occurs after your dental implant has been surgically placed and once the implant has healed within your bone and tissues. The next step is to take a new digital impression of the implant site so that a custom abutment can be milled. The abutment is made to fit precisely in the open gap. It rests just above the gum line and screws securely onto the underlying dental implant. Once secure, the prosthetic tooth can be attached to the abutment.

Zirconia and Titanium Abutments

Abutments are often fabricated out of two main materials, zirconia and titanium. There are definitely pros and cons to each, and a qualified implant dentist can help you determine which is best for your unique situation. Recent studies have found that titanium ranks higher in strength and reliability, but zirconia may be a better option when the margin of the potential abutment may show through the gingival tissue. Zirconia can also be more aesthetically pleasing than metal abutments when an all-ceramic crown is planned as the implant restoration.

As your trusted implant dentist, 1899 Dental Implant is proud to offer both zirconia and titanium custom abutments. Because we want your tooth replacement process to be both exceptional and affordable, we offer zirconia and titanium abutments at the low price of $499. I came to check their facility in Elk Grove, I called the 1899 number and the lady upfront was very nice and she scheduled me for free implant consult and when i reached their i was thrilled as facility was very modern, I got my CT scan done, no charge, whereas my oral surgeon in Sacramento wants to do it for $300 and dentist was very young, I was skeptical at first and I spoke to their other patients in the reception area and all say good things about him, I got my quote for 3 dental implants which is price of 1 dental implant from my oral surgeon here in downtown Sacramento. Go check them out they are good .
